Bill Estelle

My dad enlisted in the Marines in 1943. After boot camp at Parris Island, SC, he trained as an aviation machinist’s mate at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Memphis, TN. He was slated to be in the invasion of mainland Japan, but changing circumstances resulted in his being instead part of the occupation forces at Sasebo, Japan, near Nagasaki. He was recalled to duty during the Korean War, but never deployed due to the cease fire.
