Maj. Gen. Joseph P. Stein is Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, NATO, Casteau, Belgium.
General Stein entered the Air Force in 1975 as a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. He has served as operations officer and Commander of the 37th Bombardment Squadron, Ellsworth AFB, S.D., and as Assistant Deputy Commander for Operations for the 28th Bombardment Wing at the base. General Stein's service also includes tours as Commander, 97th Support Group, Altus AFB, Okla.; Chief of the Air Force Colonel Matters Office, Washington, D.C.; Commander, 93rd Air Control Wing, Robins AFB, Ga.; and Commander, 7th Bombardment Wing, Dyess AFB, Texas. Prior to his current assignment, he served as the Director of Aerospace Operations, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Langley AFB, Va.
General Stein is a master navigator with more than 3,200 hours of flying time in the B-52G, T-43, B-1B and E-8C.
