John Richard Sherriff Jr was born 2 Sep 1953 in Sacramento County, CA. He was the son of John Richard and Margaret Jane (Nunamaker) Sherriff. He graduated from Del Mar High School in San Jose, CA in 1971. 

He entered the US Air Force Academy, Class of 1975, on 5 Jul 1971. He was a member of Dirty Dozen (12th Squadron). He completed his college degree in Mathematics at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1975 and had an M.S. in Computer Science also from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo

John Sherriff was the former CEO of Enron Europe, based in London, which was one of the largest commodity-trading organizations in the world. They traded in European, Australian, and Japanese electricity, European natural gas markets, and worldwide oil, credit, and metals markets. Prior to joining Enron in 1994, he was a vice president at American Hunter Energy, and before that, he acted as director of corporate sales at Pacific Gas & Electric Company in San Francisco.

He lived with his family in Incline Village, Nevada.
