"The Air Force Academy’s chapel in Colorado is shown here. Members of the House changed their minds about the controversial structure and voted to allow its construction after they learned the A. F. Academy might have to open without a chapel. Most of the congressmen originally considered the proposed $3,000,000 polished aluminum structure with 19 spires a garish monstrosity and refused to let the Air Force spend any money on it. The structure will include Protestant, Catholic, & Jewish chapels under one roof." (August 9, 1957)
